Freelance Writing
Very impressive site that has so much reference material, links and features for freelance writers, that it really has to be called a community. Although the header refers to this as a site for 'working writers', you will find plenty of help and encouragement, whether you are earning your living from writing or have yet to sell your first piece. So much so that non-working writers will greatly improve their chances of changing that and start selling their work. All the pages load fairly quickly and the links for the site run attractively down the left of each and every page.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Web Events 'You are not alone' seems to be the message here, and there is always something going on you can get involved with. This is the home of the bi-weekly newsletter. There are listings of free workshops, seminars, chats with authors, and events to participate in on the internet. You can also find details of recent book deals and script deals so you can always keep up with who's doing what. If you're looking for a competition or two with cash prizes, look no further. If something a little more permanent appeals to you, there are both freelance jobs & other writing opportunities. Not bad for simply filling in your email address.
Much of the information in the newsletter is America based so check that you comply with any geographical considerations before getting carried away.
Reading Room Less of a room, more of an entire library. There are lots of sections. For the sake of your personal relationships, don't try to read everything in one sitting or you may never see the light of day again. You can subscribe to Freelancing 4 Money, a free newsletter from another web site. There are also details of how you get to read archived copies. There are excellent interviews with published authors, providing insight and encouragement. The Writers' Idea Lab is a superb resource. A question is asked and other writers visiting the site give their own thoughts. For example, a recent question asked 'What types of writing do you enjoy or do most and why?' more than fifty writers responded. There are more than 200 articles on subjects ranging from Copywriting to articles about the business side of writing. Finally there is a huge list of links for research purposes. Excellent, excellent section of the site.
Career Centre Currently there are fourteen forward links from this new page. There are a variety of jobs and numerous requests for freelancers. If you're a writer seeking work why not add your details to the dozens of others. There's a section where writers ask for help with research. A database of online talent. Unfortunately it puts the newest advertisers at the end, rather than the beginning, so it seems unlikely new posts will get much internet traffic. There's a market place, online guidelines, and soon there will even be links to other job sites. Phew.
Networking Centre 28 writing forums, some barely used. They vary from Technical Writing to Copywriting, Magazine writing, and a main lobby where anything related to writing can be aired.

COMMENTS
Every writing site should have to be this impressive. There should be a law.
