Later ... with Jools Holland
The soul denying constituency on the fringes of conservative opinion do so like to whine about the BBC licence fee. But their argument would be much the stronger if they could point to a part of the private sector that had done as much for contemporary music as Later … with Jools Holland.
EARLIER
Way back in the dim mists of antiquity, or 1992 as we who were there like to call it, the BBC gave the inestimable Jools Holland his own show. Two decades on it is still introducing the world to the finest new musical talent, such as Anna Calvi, whose recent performance on the show of her beautiful song Blackout confirms her as a musical poet in the Patti Smith tradition.
LATER ONLINE
Later's section of the BBC website offers much. You can watch the latest show, featured performances and highlights from the archive, such as The Artic Monkeys' explosive debut on the show in 2005. And, of course, this being the Age of the Tweet, you can also follow all the recent one liners about Later in the show's twitter feed on the right of the page.
