The Vienna Kunst Historiches Museum
Austria's National Museum has one of the world's most spectacular collections. The collection varies from Classical Egypt to 17th-century Baroque. The site appears in both English and German and has a simple, elegant layout, with links that work smoothly and quickly (though note the comments below on the Exhibitions section). Overviews are provided of each department's holdings, with many of the pieces illustrated and described. The introductions and the object descriptions could be longer and more detailed, but they do provide a good idea of the breadth of the collection.
The Special Exhibitions section contains much detail about their subjects. The most recent exhibition covers The Romans in Asia Minor, specifically their 'Money, Power and Politics'. A press release can be found online detailing aspects of particular interest for the viewer.
The Information section contains all the standard visiting information, opening times, buses, cafés and the like. Unfortunately, it does not make clear which galleries are open when and what exactly will be being restored or renovated at a particular time. Past visits to the museum in Vienna have been somewhat spoilt by the number of galleries closed for renovation, but that is partly the curse of a large collection and gallery space.

COMMENTS
Perhaps this museum is not as well known as it should be, given the quality of the collection; hopefully, this competent site will boost its profile.
