Europeana

Europeana is a free digital library, an online hub for much of Europe's cultural heritage. It is funded by the European Commission and run by the European Digital Library Foundation, and features contributions from around 1500 cultural institutions, including the British Library and the Louvre.

Europeana consists of over 20 million digitised items; books, maps and manuscripts, newspapers, paintings, photographs, film, sound files, museum objects and documents. Visitors to the site will have access to everything from the Gutenberg Bible to the Magna Carta, Leonardo da Vinci's drawings to footage of the French battlefields in the early months of the First World War, all freely available for armchair enthusiasts to enjoy.
