Heralded by Ian Rankin as ‘a tremendous resource', the Tangled Web offers an extensive bank of information on crime fiction for both writers and readers, ranging from Book Digests, a database of synopses for crime novels published in the UK since 1996, to Crime Scene, which covers a wide range of topics, from announcements of prize winners to author interviews. The Weblinks section in Crime Scene enticingly includes links to sites such as America's Most Wanted under Tools of the Trade, although some of these seem to be broken. A visit to the Help page is useful for navigation hints as the site's drop down lists and pop-up menus can be a little intimidating at first glance. In addition to crime fiction, the Tangled Web also offers a limited amount of information on fantasy, science fiction, horror and audiobooks.
