Buy a Credit

Reminiscent of Alex Tew's million dollar homepage, Buy a Credit is one of those ridiculously clever yet simple ideas which make you wish you'd thought of it yourself. Adrian Bliss, Benjamin Robbins and Toby Stubbs are in the final year of their A Levels and want to make a film of Jules Verne's novel Clovis Dardentor. Long forgotten and out of print in English, the novel is about two friends seeking wealth and adventure and struck the trio as a great idea for a movie.

But funding a film is notoriously difficult, even more so if you're a novice and still at school. And this is where such dreams usually die. But instead of bemoaning their creative lot in out of the way pubs, the three friends set up this website. People can donate anything from a pound to help finance the film. If you donate you get your name listed in the film credits as a producer. So far they have made £100,000 and hope to raise a £1m.

The great charm of this latest entrepreneurial internet project is that it lets everyone become a tiny little part of movie history. That the people behind it are impossibly young and look like the Jonas Brothers should be more annoying than it is. Will they get the film made? Will it be any good? Well, the website is nicely designed, bold, confident and colourful. It features quotes of encouragement from Prince Charles and Stephen Fry, who has agreed to a walk on part in the film. They've even got Joanna Lumley to do the movie style trailer for the project. This is a superb idea that you can't help but applaud. Good luck to them and see you at the Kodak Theatre!
