Go Faster Stripe

Feel overwhelmed by bounding comics that colonise Saturday night television with their yelping inanity? No, neither do we. But if you do, and wonder what happened to the unpredictable, anarchic and more artistically satisfying comedy that once described the alternative scene before it went mainstream, take a look at Go Faster Stripe, a website which makes and release CDs and DVDs by acts that don't routinely make the McIntyre Roadshow.

NOT FOR SALE

Go Faster Strike is the work of Chris Evans (not the one you're thinking of). After seeing Stewart Lee's brilliant 90s Comedian in Cardiff a few years ago Mr. Evans was stunned to discover that a DVD of the show was not commercially available. And so, with a little help from cameramen, editing and sound recordist friends, he decided to make one of his own. And thus was born a new business.

THE BACK CATALOGUE

The site features shows by some of the finest performers around like Stewart Lee, Simon Munnery, Lucy Porter and John Hegley. Clips accompany each listing so if you do fancy spending money on some of this less commercially celebrated stand-up, but don't know the comic in question, you can get some idea of what their stuff is like.
