GoodReads

GoodReads is a literary social networking site, set up in 2006 by software engineer and entrepreneur Otis Chandler

HOW IT WORKS

GoodReads works by allowing a user's friends to see what books they are reading and what they think of them. When signing up for the site you are encouraged to email your friends and establish your community. You can skip this however and try to make new friends on the site by reading other user's profiles and sending them messages. They may not respond of course, especially if you disagree with them on the merits of Dan Brown.

GROUP THINK

If this method of meeting people fails to yield acquaintance fruit, you might want to join one of the many groups on the site. Another good way to become a part of the community is to upload work. Writing is a major feature of GoodReads, and not just fiction. There is everything here from how to get published to discussions of the trials of parenthood.

GoodReads has little in the way of dash, verve or glamour. However, the site is friendly and possesses an appealing sense of calm. We recommend you take a look at the quizzes, but only if you want to give up the week.
