June 2011: Once was England
Once Was England (In memory of a vanishing land) is a blog that harks back to a disappearing age in our history - the time of the gentleman - when people ate faggots and tripe, drove Rolls Royces and Bentleys, had their clothes made with their tailor and holidayed by the sea.
QUINTESSENTIALLY ENGLISH
For those looking to escape the cheap and easy surge of modern life - think X-Factor, Tesco, Primark, and Easy Jet - this is the place to come. Posts point visitors in the direction of quintessentially English places, goods and events that take one back to an England of old. Join the Tweed Run, where people dressed up in vintage tweed cycle on their vintage bicycles around London; sign up to the Classic Car Club to drive automotives such as the 1958 Jaguar XK 150 or the 1965 MGB; or shop at London's oldest and grandest butcher.
ENGLAND'S FINEST
Once Was England posts are written in a tally-ho, toodle-pip style, fitting for the subject matter and are accompanied by large, high quality images. In addition, visitors can browse England's Finest, where links to all the typically English places mentioned in the blog are listed by subject (Automotives; Clothes & Accessories; Food & Drink etc). A Once Was England shop has a limited selection of leather goods available to buy at the moment, but this is sure to grow with time.
