November 2009: Mrs Stephen Fry
The blog of the month this month is a microblog: the Twitter account of one Mrs Stephen Fry. Her tweets are far less popular than those of her husband, but her regular entries on the domestic life of the Frys are followed by over 15,000 people, which indicates an impressive level of success for a mere spousal accessory. I suppose we must put Mr Stephen Fry's greater popularity down to the tryanny of celebrity. Had his better half got out of the kitchen a bit more and given us a book or a film or a documentary or a comedy show to get excited about then, more of us might have taken notice of her. But it's taken Twitter to bring her existence to our attention.
With a beguiling straightforwardness, Mrs Fry describes herself as 'poor' and 'downtrodden' and the mother of Stephen's 'six kids.' I imagine that her husband, being rather busy, doesn't help out much around the house. Surely, they can afford childcare?
At the moment Mrs Fry is a little preoccupied with the fuss over her husband's tweets having been called 'boring.' Ever faithful to her beau, she has rallied around at this most difficult of times. "I'm standing up for my man, @StephenFry,' she tweets. 'He may be boorish, shameless, cheap, lecherous & irritating but NEVER boring!"
So that should be that. Mrs Fry undoubtedly knows Mr Fry as well as anyone. Let her soothe his troubled being and let us leave the pair of them alone to enjoy a bit of unmediated coupledom.
