July 2009: BLDG BLOG

Blog of the Month for July is BLDG BLOG, the latest digital journal to make it into book form. (Odd that being published in the traditional manner is still the ne plus ultra for writers, even in our wired world of endless creative possiblity.) Not that the author of this blog is a newbie writer. Geoff Manaugh was a senior editor of Dwell magazine and is now a contributing editor at Wired UK.

BLDG BLOG has had almost five million visitors since Manaugh set it up in 2004. It's not difficult to see why. It's stylish and elegant and has the feel of a beautifully staged museum exhibition or something from the set of Kubrick's 2001.

Manaugh offers engaging and entertaining insight into the world of architecture.  As well as news, urban history and photography, you'll find speculation and conjecture here, an enthused and informed engagement with the future shape of our cities.

BLDG BLOG investigates the less celebrated corners of the world of builders, visionaries and town planners, has a long links list and provides a series of fascinating interviews with the likes of Cambridge Classics professor Mary Beard and science fiction novelist Kim Stanley Robinson. Even if you have just a passing interest in buildings and the people who design the, stop by this site.
