January 2011: PostSecret

The Blog of the Month for the first month of 2011 is PostSecret. Describing itself as "an ongoing community art project" the blog invites users to send in their secrets on one side of a postcard. 

Scanned and preserved online, these postcards represent a visual shrine to the death of privacy. Why keep a secret, a private thought, an indiscretion or a fantasy, when you can tell the whole world about it?

In keeping with internet's experiment in voyeuristic cacophony, the appeal of PostSecret lies in the access it affords us to the lives of others. Aside from the different styles of the postcards themselves, looking at which offers its own pleasure, it's the hidden stories among the jokes, inventions and provocations, whole universes of meaning for our imaginations to work on, which make this blog something to come back to.
