November 2011: Martin Lewis' Blog

What Martin Lewis doesn't know about finance isn't worth knowing and, with people like him around, you have to wonder how so many of us have managed to get into such a pickle in the first place. His site, Money Saving Expert, from which he runs his blog, is hugely successful and, while not the prettiest out there, is second-to-none when it comes to dispensing practical, well-researched and informative advice about all matters relating to personal (and state) finances as well as consumer issues.

NERD RAGE

While claiming to be unconstrained to financial matters - "It's just a place to muse on life, money, being in the media and more…" - the Martin Lewis Blog never strays far from the fiscal or consumer campaign theme, whether it's applying money saving techniques to dieting/healthy eating, releasing "an explosion of pent-up nerd rage" about why you "CANNOT give 110% effort," or tackling the government on issues such as the rising cost of energy and why there should be compulsory financial education in schools.

ANGRY ON OUR BEHALF

In the style that we have come to expect from this eloquent TV and radio personality, journalist and author, Martin Lewis blogs in a way that makes finance and other related subjects, which often seem complex at the outset, seem simple and straightforward. Here is someone who gets angry on our behalf, refuses to be fleeced and cares about the superficially small stuff (ie. pre-selected travel insurance, PPI reclaiming, bank charges and the companies that get away with murder). His blog is well-worth bookmarking; just make sure you tune in from time to time and listen to what he has to say.
