Help Solar Team Great Britain (STGB) develop the UK’s first family-sized solar powered car. They plan to race it across Australia in October 2017, and they want to win! The team will be entering the Cruiser Class of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge race, which helps develop more real-world solar-power cars.

They need to finalise designs, agree manufacturing partners, build, ship and get the solar car to the start line in Darwin. Between now and October, there is a lot to do! So far, they have a dozen sponsors backing the team and the patrons include Red Dwarf’s Robert Llewellyn.

Currently, the first official designs of the car shell have been released. It is the STGB_C5 and is created to maximize efficiency with a large surface area to generate power. ‘We want the project to inspire and engage students and young professionals to apply their talents into sustainability – and thereby secure the future of us all,’ says the team.

STGB is seeking to raise between £20-26k via the Kickstarter campaign. This is around 5% of the total target as team members and sponsors are contributing the rest of the cash or in-kind contributions required.
