Going somewhere new? Want to travel like a local? There is nothing more humdrum than feeling like a tourist or, perish the thought, following a mainstream tour group. This is where CityUnscripted comes in; the personalised travel service that helps users experience the culture and vibe of a local.

CityUnscripted works with a network of over 275 locals globally, who are fluent in over 38 languages. Users can select, or are match-made, with a vetted local host who matches the user’s personal interests. The local hosts tend to be undergraduates, retired professionals or stay at home mums who all know the city intimately. Users can then create bespoke itineraries following recommendations from these locals. The service also has a database of ready-made tours and an online TripPlanner service. The new ‘Book a local’ option is now available in 13 new cities including Madrid, London, Tokyo, New York and San Francisco. More cities will follow this year.


This time last year, CityUnscripted (previously TripConsul) raised £144k. The company is now looking to raise £200,000 for 11.76% equity via Crowdcube to globally expand to 100 cities by the end of 2017. Since October 2016, 15.5% of bookings were repeat customers.

CityUnscripted is is giving a pre-money valuation of £1,500,000.
