A brand spanking new year - and what better way to see in 2014 than with an update to your tired old photo apps? Here are three that are well worth the download.

ANDCAM (free)

First up: a bit of no holds barred fun - which is where AndCam comes in. Stickers, overlays and some really fun filters - with this one there's more of a cartoon theme in comparison to our other favourite, Pic Lab HD, but AndCam's USP is all about the interaction: once you've created your decidedly snappy image, you can commune with other like-minded users in a private 'Camversation'. Plenty to enjoy.

WORDEO (free)

Now occasionally we stumble across an app that really makes us rethink the way we interact in the visual sphere. Already a fan of Snapchat and Vine? Then you'll be pleased to know there's a pretender to the instant video throne and it's Wordeo. Why? Because it's all about words, and tons of them; integrating thems, watching them filter across the screen, overlaying them with puppies (then sharing across social media) - you name it, it's possible, and with all good apps, once it's been endorsed by tech addict and general barometer Stephen Fry, you know it won't be long before it goes viral.

FOTOPEDIA (free)
www.fotopedia.com

All those photos out there; the thousands of smartphone users snapping away, recording all manner of incredible landscapes sadly never to be seen by the general populus... Well that's all about to change, with the addition of Fotopedia, one of those apps that begs the question: why has no one thought of this before? A veritable encyclopdia of incredible images the world over, with reams of Janurary centric topics covered - such as travel, culture, and entertainment - there's certainly something to pull you from the doldrums. It's fun, useful, creative and great for location scouting.
