The story of the restoration of the unique gardens at Heligan is well-known. This website has been designed with alot of imagination and a sense of fun.
Available in several languages and in flash and non-flash, we review here the flash version, complete with birdsong in the background.
The site is designed as a book, with creepers, Sleeping Beauty-like crawling over the pages and back again. To read each of the pages simply move the cursor downwards.
Across the top of the home page are contact details, visitor information and the story of the discovery of and the restoration of the gardens. The real treat is in Explore which offers a tour of the each part of the garden, page by page as it were.
The Northern Gardens, where fruit and vegetables are grown, the sub-tropical Jungle with its own micro-climate, the semi-natural woodlands in the Lost Valley and finally the Virtual Tour which takes you round the garden are all described and illustrated here.
Given the stunning photographs it is obvious that this site is not a substitute for actually going to Heligan, but it is pretty close.
