Lupins and Delphiniums from Seed

This is a very exciting time of year if you’re into propagation, but it’s all to easy to run out of propagator space. Thank goodness for delphiniums and lupins that can be sown now without any heat. Lupins are pretty reliable germinators (especially if you pregerminate the seed on a damp kitchen towel before you sow). But delphs are capricious characters and I’ve never got anywhere near even 80% germination, so I always sow them in batches to spread the risk – with any luck one batch will take a liking to the conditions I offer. In the meantime I keep the seed in the fridge (with the cheese).
