Confused.com is a trading name of price-comparison service Inspop.com Limited. With four channels the website covers:

Insurance: Motor(car, van, motorbike), travel, life, medical, home, pet and small business
Finance: Credit cards, loans (unsecured, homeowner), mortgages, current accounts, savings accounts
Utilities: Gas, electricity, telephone, carbon offset
Motor: Breakdown insurance, tyres, cars (Drive the Deal)

The site also includes small business, medical, pet and van insurance along with life assurance.

The centrepiece is the comparator search engine which submits your details (entered on a common application form) to a large panel of insurers. This page provides web links to the insurance provider's website where you can fine-tune your application, receive a final quote and apply.

Although the search engine can take a few minutes to deliver quote, the results along with all personal information can be saved, making subsequent quotation requests relatively painless.

When transferring to the provider's site, it is important to check the assumptions underpinning the quote. For example, car insurer Swiftcover assumed that my vehicle was fitted with both an immobiliser and an alarm despite the fact that I disclosed an immobiliser only on the Confused data capture form.


Verdict
The highlight is the common search engine and the ability to save quotes, which is a time saver. Navigation is straightforward. On the negative side, the site has no supporting material to explain insurance fine print, which puts it slightly behind competitors like
insuresupermarket with comparable functionality.
